While Jack Vettriano’s famous painting, The Singing Butler, is a relatively recent work of art, its use of color and form, impact upon the viewer, and the different ways of interpreting the meaning make it a perfect representation of art.  The use of the color red on the woman’s dress, contrasting with the dark clothing of both her partner and the butlers make her pop out as the center of the painting.  As one begins to examine the rest of the painting, however, one can begin to appreciate the background and overall atmosphere of the scene.  Art must speak to its viewer, and The Singing Butler, could have a number of meanings, ranging from a romantic moment between two people or to a more controversial interpretation involving the butlers who are made to be not as glamorous as the main couple.  While there is much controversy over this painting, it still holds some of the major qualities necessary to define it as an excellent representation of artwork.
